Ontario Military Machete

Ontario Military Machete - Toll Free: +1-800-504-5897 Intl.: +1-847-513-6201 Fax: +1-866-534-3097 Email: sales@opticsplanet.com Ontario has some of the machetes, bayonets and produce some of the most iconic survival knives in the US, so it's safe to assume they make good stuff.

Even though the 6145 can be found for only $20 on Amazon, it is still made in the USA and is still a very high quality product. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average.

Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. He also analyzed reviews to determine trustworthiness. The factory grind is good but admittedly not as hot as some other brands, with the tip being considerably rougher than the rest of the blade.

What To Include In Your Review

I point this out for the sake of accuracy, but in practical terms I don't think grinding 6145 is a bit imperfectly important one piece. Ontario machetes are tools designed for real world use. A perfect grind would just increase the cost without adding any utility.

One of the only major differences between my old Ontario and the new one is the material used for the handle. The newer Ontario uses a heavy plastic material and the older machete uses a hard material, probably Bakelite.

The CT5 22″ machete is four inches longer than the 6145. My friend owned this model, and while it was a little awkward for many tasks it felt like a decent sword and it was an explosive to be used in short bursts.

I covered the handle on my old 6120 with cloth tape years ago and it made it much more comfortable and easier to grip. Some machete enthusiasts recommend tennis racket grip tape. This is a more expensive option and I haven't tried it personally, but I bet it would look good and feel very smart in the and.

Stiff enough and heavy enough to cut through larger branches, but not too heavy. The leather lining is a problem though - if you're in a hot, humid climate and wear it against your sweaty clothes, the leather will eventually become too soft and the belt loop will fail with

to pull out of the rivets. Sewing solves the problem. Ontario machetes aren't perfect, but they are great value for money. For just $20, you can get a machete that's cheap enough you don't have to worry about it being so good - you'll want to use it all the time.

In a market full of imported junk,  I cannot recommend the 6145 highly enough. The 18" Military Machete has been manufactured for over 60 years under US Government specifications, now you can get yours! It has a thicker blade than the Econo version, so it's a little hotter

and more resistant to abuse, making it a great choice for campers, hunters, landscapers and many others The black 1095 steel blade is coated with phosphor zinc and has a flat ground edge The black plastic handle is hard and

size for a solid grip. The Ontario I've had the longest is their 6120 model, which is identical to the 6145 except for the saw blade. I bought it to replace a 6145 that I accidentally left in

the woods after a camping trip with too many Keystone Lights. Quality, military-issue machetes feature unbroken handling. Constructed of 0.125" thick carbon steel treated with a black oxide coating. Handle made of flame retardant thermal plastic with three steel tension rivets and thong hole.

Available with or without hand guard. Made in the USA On my 20 year old machete I noticed that some of the rivets were rattling a bit after years of use. Wrapping the handle with tape fixed the problem.

It's not as efficient as a traditional handsaw, but it gets the job done and is often easier (though not as fun) than hacking through a finger with the front edge of the blade. I bought the 22” Ontario machete for my husband when we bought our farm.

I had also bought a different brand of machete for him to try. Between the two, I will say that the Ontario is far superior in quality to the other Inhad machete purchased. Actually, the blade on that machete broke while clearing a path through the wooded part of our property.

The Ontario has resisted several trips around the property, clearing brush and trimming tree limbs of various thicknesses. He was so pleased with the 22” Ontario Machete that he asked me to order the 18” Ontario to add to his woodland arsenal.

The black nylon sheath is basic but seems to be a popular and affordable shedding solution, although I haven't personally used it. The hard plastic sheath looks sturdy but has received very mixed reviews, with many customers complaining that it holds the blade tightly and damages the surface.

The large handle seems to be one of the only complaints about this machete. While I will admit that I prefer the handle on my Condor Eco Survivor, I have used the Ontario for long stretches of intensive cutting and had little problem.

However, a rounded handle would be ideal. Someone more active than me could easily modify it with a few basic tools or build a new one together. This is one of the only full tang machetes I have reviewed so far.

Full tang means that the blade is one long piece that extends all the way through the handle and the two side pieces of the handle are attached to the sides of the blade. The handle of the 6145 is made of heavy duty molded plastic that is attached to the blade with heavy duty rivets.

The handle is more comfortable than it looks, but it is very square and fat. I have medium sized hands so I'll be fine with it, but users with smaller hands may find the handle too flat.

The sheath arrived sooner than expected; which is always a good thing. It appears to be of good design and quality...there is nothing wrong with it; but then; it's a gem! Sizing (I got the 18in version) was spot-on.

which is a very valid question. Here are a few good reasons: A short blade is lighter, easier to control, and small enough to fit under your pillow.
